Many law schools offer the option to defer law school enrollment.  Typically, after you are admitted to law school, you are provided with the option of a one-year deferment.  You should investigate whether the schools you are admitted to have this option, as many schools will not publicize it.  Some schools will only offer deferred enrollment if you provide a “good cause,” which can be as simple as “I want to travel for a year.”

Here is an article from the Connecticut Law Tribune that explores the value of a law degree in an economy in which good legal jobs are scarce.  The article raises what is by a now a pretty common issue with a law school education: its cost.  If a student takes out $150,000 in loans for law school and then cannot find a job, how can the initial investment be considered anything other than a major mistake?

According to The Wall Street Journal, with employment prospects for new law school graduates continuing to be relatively bleak, many law schools are pushing law firms to conduct on-campus interviews as early as August.  The hope is that this will provide a competitive advantage to those students able to interview early in the process.  For example, the article points out that, during the 2008 market crash, Harvard and Yale law schools went last in the interview process, which hurt their students, …

The Guardian recently released its ranking of the  top ten places to study law in the world.
Harvard Law School topped the list, followed by two British Universities: Oxford and Cambridge.  Overall, the United States made a strong showing, with Yale, Stanford, Boalt, Columbia, and NYU placing 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 10th, respectively.
